Child sponsorship was how our vision began. Due to low funding to schools, thousands of children across Mongolia were dropping out of school. We wanted those children back in school. Over the past two years we have helped hundreds of children return to school. Our goal is to continue to keep this as a foundational program in our efforts, ensuring the children’s futures are always at the forefront of what we do. At the same time, we work with the communities these children come from, helping them create ways to support their local schools themselves.
What does $20 mean to you?
In our research to find out why so many children were dropping out of school across Mongolia, we found due to low funding of schools more and more families were required to purchase their own textbooks if they wanted their children to be able to go to school. The cost of these textbooks averaged about $20 per child, often equivalent to a family’s monthly salary per child, making them simply out of reach for most families. Responding to this situation, we began approaching people and asking them to consider sponsoring a child by purchasing a pack of textbooks that would cover their education for a year. As you can see, the results were incredible, hundreds of children were able to return to school in our first year of operation. $20 might not sound like much, but for many it’s hope for a better future.
How it works.
Our child sponsorship program is simple. Donors sponsor a child’s education by investing $20. We work with local printing companies in Mongolia to produce the textbooks that the schools require, which also stimulates the local economy in Mongolia. We then identify schools in need and partner with them to ensure that the textbooks get to the children who most need them so they are allowed to return to school. As our programs have progressed we have been surprised to see our sponsor’s $20 going farther than we expected. Many children have taken great care of their books and are handing them down to younger students at the end of the school year. Many of these textbooks will last for 2-3 years! Sponsor a child today!
